개요

We have widely used molybdenum (Mo) in various industrial fields because of its unique properties.

One of the abilities of molybdenum is to withstand extreme temperature without significant expansion and contraction conntributing to the manufacture of aircraft parts, electrical contacts, industrial motors, and filaments [1]. In addition, it is also used in alloy steelsa, tool steels, and cast irons for its high corrosion resistance and weldability [2].

The kinetics of the reduction of MoO3 by hydrogen and/or hydrocarbon was studied by many researchers to investigate the reaction mechanism during the reduction of molybdenum oxides [3-9]. Unfortunately, mass production of molybdenum powders on the industrial scale using mine ores containing molybdenum in a form of molybdenum oxide (MoO3) as a raw material were not attempted at all.

In this study, hydrogen reduction of MoO3 to Mo was conducted as a function of temperature, reaction time, and gas flow rate to manufacture metal powders of molybdenum. In addition, molybdenum powders after ball-milled were examined by a scanning electron microcopy (SEM) and a X-ray diffraction(XRD)
